Why It's Important

Exercising the right to vote is an essential aspect to any successful democracy. Only 70% of total registered voters in the Richmond Region turned out to vote in the 2016 general elections. This is slightly below the Virginia turnout of 72% and well above an historically low national voter turnout of only about 60%.
