Why It's Important

High school dropout rates include any student in grades 9-12 who dropout before they graduate. The societal and economic costs of high school dropout rate for the U.S. is enormous. According to the American Psychological Association, dropouts are far more likely than the rest of the population to experience reduced job and income opportunities, chronic unemployment, incarceration, or require government assistance.
